Morning Routine, General Diary, Thoughts, and Ideas
So my whole family slept at home last night, no more teenage cancer ward for us and I hope never again. I got up just after 9 am and completed my morning routine.
Today, I paid a friend of mine for a skiing trip in Austria that he has booked for us and then I also topped up my wife and I’s ISA account so that I can do more share trading and hopefully generate more income.
As it’s Austria where we are going skiing I put my learning of Spanish slightly on hold and switched to German. Hoping I can get a very basic understanding of the language in time for my trip in January!
Food Diary
Today I ate:
Heinz vegetable soup with a ham sandwich.
Two crumpets with very well-done cheese on top, due to the fact that I forgot about them while they were under the grill!
A packet of walkers cheese and onion crisps.
In the SAVERS acronym R is for Reading
My goal today is to read 20 minutes of Build and Promote Profitable SaaS Business
My starting point for today is location 288 or 12% complete.
My ending point was location 350 or 14% complete.
In the SAVERS acronym, S is for Scribing
Keynotes from the book today were:
Don’t worry about competition, think of hairdressers, their are loads of them but they still manage to have their own set of customers.
To do: list all the queries potential users might use to search for your SaaS. Then list 20 to 30 keywords to use in the Google keyword planner tool, to get a rough idea of the search volume for each of them.
To do: Google search all of the queries and check what websites rank in the top ten. Narrow it down with inurl:website.com + keyword
- brand name + alternatives
- top X tools – to find a list of tools used for a specific task
This will enable you to gather information on your competitors and enable you to filter out direct and indirect competitors. When you have 5 direct competitors you can check them more thoroughly using paid tools.
Ahrefs is apparently one of the best but it’s pricey but also offers a free option according to the author. The second best one is
Semrush. For each website you need to try and find the:
- number of linking domains
- organic keywords they rank for
- when they started link building
- and the links that they use
All useful information for identifying promotion opportunities. In particular you are looking for
non-branded keywords that a competitor site ranks for.
- non-branded keywords that a competitor site ranks for.
- keywords close to your topic that bring in the most traffic
- check Search Engine Results Page (SERP) for the keywords
- Identify what is top for each of the search terms. Blog articles, home pages, youtube videos. This is the content that you need to improve on to promote your business and generate leads.
